Recognizing Childhood Danger Signs
How to know when a sick child needs urgent hospital care.
Many children do not die because treatment is not available. They die because help was delayed. When we recognize danger signs early and go to the hospital quickly, we can save a child’s life.
🚨 First: General Danger Signs
Please take your child to the hospital immediately if:
- The child cannot breastfeed or drink
- The child is vomiting everything
- The child has convulsions (fits)
- The child is very weak, not waking up, or unconscious
- The child is breathing fast or with difficulty
Do not wait till tomorrow. Go immediately.
🌡 Fever
If a child has fever:
- And it lasts more than 3 days
- Or the child has convulsions
- Or the child becomes very weak
Please go to the hospital. Fever can be malaria or serious infection.
💩 Diarrhoea
If a child has diarrhoea and:
- There is blood in the stool
- The child has sunken eyes
- The child is too weak to drink
- The child is not passing urine
That child needs urgent medical care.
🍼 Newborn Babies (Less than 1 month old)
Newborns can become sick very fast.
Go to the hospital immediately if the baby:
- Refuses breast milk
- Has fever or feels cold
- Has difficulty breathing
- Has pus around the cord
⚠ Important Message
Please do not rely only on herbs when you see these signs.
Please do not wait for money before going.
Please do not say “let us watch till tomorrow.”
When a child looks very sick, act fast.
🙏 Conclusion
Remember this simple rule:
If a child cannot drink, is convulsing, breathing badly, or very weak — go to the hospital immediately.
